Rare 1956 Jaguar D-Type To Be Auctioned

Gooding & Company announced that it will be hosting a two-day auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 22-23, with the highlight of the first day being the sale of the previously-announced 1956 Jaguar D-Type, that will be joining a long list of recently-consigned collector cars.

"This January marks Gooding & Company's third year in Scottsdale which has been a successful venue for us since the beginning," says owner and President David Gooding. "Following a strong 2009 Arizona sale, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to extend our Scottsdale auction to two days. With sensational cars such as a 1956 Jaguar D-Type, a 1959 Ferrari Series 1 Pinin Farina Cabriolet and a one-off Murphy-bodied 1934 Duesenberg, we expect to have an exciting two days in Arizona."

In addition to the previously announced lots, such as the rare 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport and the 1956 Maserati A6G/54 Berlinetta, Gooding & Company added a second list to star in the Friday auction.

New cars include a one-of-a-kind 1934 Duesenberg Model J with a disappearing top, a 1927 6 1/2-Litre Bentley Sports Coupe and the Briggs Cunningham and Stirling Moss-driven 1959 Costin Lister Jaguar Sports Racer.

The only Murphy-bodied Convertible Coupe in existence with rear-mounted spares, J-461 is renowned for its many concours awards including a Best in Class at the 1986 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and first place at the 1987 Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance.

“From their inception, Gooding & Company has presented truly remarkable classic, racing and sports cars, as well as superb private collections -- always with impeccable provenance,”
says Ken Gross, award-winning author and automotive historian. “Their auctions are exciting, entertaining and memorable. As proof, check out the one-of-a-kind Duesenberg Model J, Murphy disappearing top roadster, with its twin rear spares at Scottsdale."
