The Ultimate Drive App from BMW Reveals Top Driving Roads

BMW’s latest app for North American drivers called The Ultimate Drive encourages motorists to mix driving with the pleasure of sight seeing. Being released last week, the free app enables users to explore, share and rate the world’s most interesting driving roads, with the help of users worldwide. By incorporating GPS, the app is also able to find routes surrounding a particular location. The app will also alert users when new routes are being discovered close to them.

“There are plenty of sites that will show you the top roads to drive. The roads that are filtering up (in the app) include others that very few people have ever heard of, and that's what makes it so exciting. It starts getting very granular from a user-experience standpoint as to what people will share on the app,” Pawan Murthy, of BMW Group Financial Services, was quoted as saying by autonews.com.

At the moment, there are more than 600 routes which had been added to the app. Muthy revealed that the most exciting routes are those with the bet scenery and, for drivers with sporty cars, include many turns. Also, there are many points of interest like cafes and restaurants with good food which get a lot of mentions. BMW’s release is the first generation of an app crossing th line toward “gamification” by introducing game play elements to increase user participation.

"We wanted to get Version 1 out so we could expose it to the world and initiate crowd sourcing of routes. Succeeding versions will have a closer connection with financial services,” explained Pawan Murthy, cited by the aforementioned source. The Ultimate Drive is currently available only in North America
