Drive straight into the water, activate the Emergency Floating Mode, and keep going. Your car will get you to your destination. But remember one thing! Don't try it unless it is a YangWang U9 that you are driving.
A video of the YangWang U9 SUV floating on water as if it were the most natural thing in the world was uploaded on social media. The one filming the scene asks the occupants of the vehicle if they need any help once they are in the middle of the lake.

But they seem fine out there, as the SUV advances slowly through the water. They have the windows rolled down and happily wave to the one standing on the shore. The SUV eventually reaches land and drives off.

As strange as it may seem, it is nothing out of the ordinary for this vehicle. The YangWang U9 that you are looking at is equipped with the Emergency Floating Mode, which prevents sinking for 30 minutes.

All that the driver has to do is activate the Yachting Mode, which automatically elevates the suspension, deactivates the engine, switches the HVAC system to recirculation mode to avoid water ingress, closes the windows, and opens the sunroof as an escape root. Those in the Instagram video don't seem to need many of these features, though.

The wheels of the vehicle spin at low speed, moving the car forward at 1.8 mph (3 kph). They can also turn right or left. Furthermore, the vehicle is capable of doing the famous tank turn on land and water both.

However, BYD warned drivers that the function is not for entertainment and they should not abuse it. The feature should only be activated unless there is a flood, or the car ends up in water following an accident. The driver in the video doesn't seem to have been involved in any of the two, so he is just having fun.

Once the car hits the water, the screen located in the center console displays information regarding the car's movement through the water, estimating depth and the distance to the shore.

The U8 SUV features IP68 level waterproof. However, the automaker warns drivers that, after taking their vehicle into the water, they need to schedule an appointment at a service center for inspection. Experts would check the sealing, the potential water infiltration, and the rust hazard.

BYD sells the YangWang U9 in two versions. The entry-level version can go through water as deep as 39 inches (one meter). That is what the Mercedes-Benz G-Class off-roader is capable of doing. There is also an Off-Road Master Edition, which is what you are looking right now. This variant is equipped with a snorkel and can go through water that is 55 inches (1.4 meters) deep.

The U8 is powered by four electric motors, working alongside a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that serves as a range extender for a total of 1,184 horsepower (1,196 metric horsepower).

A 20-gallon (75-liter) fuel tank and the 49.05-kWh battery pack make it capable of driving as far as 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) on a single charge.

The Tesla Cybertruck should be able to serve as a boat, too

That is what Elon Musk said back in September 2022. Tesla's CEO explained that the Cybertruck would be "waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren't too choppy." He went as far as saying that the electric truck would be able to go from Starbase to South Padre Island in Texas.

However, since November 30, when deliveries of the Cybertruck started, we haven't seen any of them floating. We did see it driving through pretty deep water and then suffering the consequences of the swim. The tonneau cover and tailgate buttons at the back didn't seem to work anymore after the water adventure.

Knowing Tesla, though, a later over-the-air update might turn the Cybertruck into a full-size boat.
