The BMW Golf Cup International is the world's largest amateur golf series with over 100,000 players from around the world entering the qualifying rounds of the competition. The best 137 players and their entourages from 47 different countries were invited by BMW in South Africa at the Fancourt Golf Resort for the World Final.
“This week and the entire BMW Golf Cup International have been a great success and an unforgettable experience for all involved,” said Eckhard Wannieck, Head of International Sponsoring, Cooperations and Product Placement at BMW. “The participants came from four different continents and from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. At times communication between them was difficult, but the one thing that united them was a passion for the game of golf and for the BMW brand. That’s a wonderful thing.”

The South African team made the most of the home advantage and won the competition, leaving the second place for the German team represented by Stephanie Kohler, Marcel Zilles and Quan Anh Nguyen. This was the best result for the German golfers at the BMW International Cup for years.

The event was honored to have as a special guest the legendary, 77-year old Gary Player. He was given a warm welcome by the amateurs and demonstrated his shots with grace and an impressive level of fitness. After all, he was the one that helped design the Fancourt's three courses.

BMW offered the players the chance to experience the BMW xDrive feeling around the mountains nearby the Fancourt Golf Resort, behind the wheel of the latest convertible models from the Bavarian manufacturer's line-up.

Ian Robertson, Board Member of the BMW AG presented the winners with their prizes and had this to say: "The finalists made for a wonderful atmosphere and played with great joy and sportsmanship. As far as we’re concerned they’re all winners – first for qualifying as national champions in their own countries, but also for having made the BMW Golf Cup International once again such a unique experience.”
