The 2010 Honda Civic Is The Most Stolen Mainstream Vehicle

United States car thieves have some sort of a passion for Japanese cars, especially for Honda and Toyota. The 2000 Civic model is one particular example when it comes to grand theft auto.

According to LoJack’s Second Annual Vehicle Theft Recovery Report, Honda and Toyota are two of the most mainstream stolen vehicles in the US.

Honda is in the leader’s spot of stolen import cars with the economic 2000 Civic model and it’s thieves' favorite for the second year in the row, while General Motors' Cadillac Escalade is the most recovered American vehicle. In 2010, a number of 10,649 vehicles were stolen and just a meagre 57% of them were recovered.

Patrick Clancy, Vice President of Law Enforcement, LoJack Corporation, said: "This year's report underscores the continuation of a critical trend regarding the recovery rates of stolen vehicles."

"Across the country, an astounding 43.2 percent of stolen vehicles were not recovered. What this tells us is that today's sophisticated thieves are getting around different means of protection-including smart keys-and getting away with theft. To protect cars today, it takes a stolen vehicle recovery system like LoJack's that is covert, so that thieves cannot easily find and disengage it. The system has Radio Frequency technology, which enables the vehicle to be tracked even if it is in hidden in areas that obstruct GPS and/or cellular signals; and most importantly, is directly integrated with law enforcement," he added.

When it comes to new cars (less than 5 years old), the Toyota Camry 2007 and 2009 model is number 1 and 2 on the list of stolen new cars. The Japanese automaker is followed by the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, 2007 Cadillac Escalade and 2006 Ford F-250.

California is the state with the most stolen vehicles, while Texas comes in second and Florida has a reputation for orange stolen cars.
