It’s already dark but, as I’m approaching the showroom through the chilly air, I can see it. The thing is hiding under the usual white wrap. I bet that Porsche 911 Turbo is just as eager as I am to see the girls raise its cover. But they can’t do that yet.
Porsche may have revealed the 991-generation 911 Turbo and Turbo S at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but now it was time for the supercar to inaugurate the largest luxury car facility in South Eastern Europe, Porsche Pipera. The facility also caters to the Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini brands, so the new Turbo’s got quite an audience to please.

This was going to be the Romanian launch of the 911 Turbo, but all I could think about was grabbing the key and taking the forced-fed coupe out of there.

The new active rear axle steering is useless here, under the spotlights. The Carrera S we drove a while back was hair-raisingly good on a mountain road, so the Turbo should absolutely fly. I can hear that flat six now...

As these thoughts kept popping in mind, I started looking around and it happened. I had one of those Porsche moments. The people. It’s all about the people. Everybody started socializing and you could see the guests connecting around the car.

Sure, the 911 Turbo’s tech assets were there, under the wrap, but the lifestyle the 911 inspires had already spread across the massive structure of the showroom. This magic is just as important as the boxer found at the back of the car. People were meeting old friends, making new ones or simply sharing contacts, but the important thing is that they were enjoying themselves.

When the time came for the car to be set free, everybody had settled into some sort of high life, yet cozy atmosphere. A 911 Turbo S emerged and a group of children immediately jumped aboard. Not a bad evening for the little guys then.

The Turbo S was dressed in White, leaving the colors for its two elderly relatives who were accompanying it in the showroom. I’m talking about a 1973 911 T dressed in Burgundy, as well as about a Champagne-colored 930 Turbo, the original forced induction 911. The two were gossiping about how the new 911 Turbo starts at EUR177,070, while the 911 Turbo S can be yours for at least EUR213,000 - 24 percent VAT included.

The night went on and, before I left, I had another Porsche moment - I saw the meaning of 911 love.
