Ever since it entered the electric car market more than a decade ago, Tesla avoided the usual marketing channels and instead went for a more word of mouth approach. That's why you nearly never get to see the carmaker's products being advertised as other products do.
This reality makes it nearly impossible to know in advance what Tesla will have to offer in the future, and often any new product slips unnoticed into the world. Like this new wheel designed for the Model S.

The latest software update for Tesla cars allows owners, among other things, to select their desired wheel configuration right from inside the car. The update is available for the S, Xand 3, and selecting a new wheel will immediately have effect in the virtual car displayed on the screen.

While toying with the new option, one Model S owner found there is a new wheel option for this range, one that for now is not available on the carmaker's website. According to Electrek, who received the tip from the owner, the new wheels are sized 19 inches and are called Sonic Silver Tempest.

At the moment, the Tesla website shows only three-wheel option for the S. The range starts with the standard 19-inch Silver wheels, continues with the $1,500 19-inch Sonic Carbon Slipstream and ends with the $4,500 Sonic Carbon Twin Turbine.

It's not yet clear how much these new wheels will cost and whether they will form the basis for a new wheel option for the 3, for instance (there are only two-wheel choices for this range at the time).

Other than what you read above, there's no other information available on these wheels yet, but the chatter on online forums is increasing and probably sooner than later we'll know more.

We'll update this story if and when that happens.
