Tesla Motors has set a new speed record for an electric vehicle crossing the United States last week, after its Cross Country Rally team, which consisted of two Tesla Model S sedans, traveled from Los Angeles to New York City in 76 and a half hours relying only on Superchargers for energy.
The vehicles covered 3,464.5 miles and the crew spent nearly 60 hours driving, while nearly 16 hours were spent at the charging stations. Tesla also recorded the lowest charge time for an electric vehicle traveling across the United States, which is now being assessed for recognition as a Guinness World Records achievement.

The manufacturer estimated that the trip saved 136 gallons of gasoline per car and a total of $870 for both vehicles at $3.20 per gallon of gas. Find out more about the Tesla Cross Country Rally in the official press statements below.
