Tesla Model R Is a Rendering of the Electric Hypercar That Won't Happen

Tesla kind of went the other way around with the way it programmed the evolution of its models. It had to. Elon Musk's plan to start off with a limited-edition sports car paid dividends and paved the way for the company's next project.
It seems like now, after three relatively expensive offerings, Tesla is finally about to come up with a more accessible vehicle, essentially opening up the company to a much broader public. But while that doesn't mean it's going to be all downhill from here in terms of exclusivity, we still don't think a supercar is anywhere on Tesla's short to medium range radar.

Elon Musk has just published the second part of his master plan for Tesla, and there's not even a hint there about making very powerful and expensive EVs. Besides, a supercar isn't exactly a very efficient way of making money, usually serving as image vectors. Well, after the 373,000 reservation for the Model 3, Tesla sure isn't short on public awareness. What it needs to work on right now is its production capability, and that's precisely what's on Elon Musk's mind at the moment.

However, given the dynamic performances that Tesla's products have had so far, dreaming of a Palo Alto supercar is perfectly understandable. The guys at carwow allowed themselves a moment of daydreaming and came up with this: an electric supercar that would give the LaFerrari a run for its money. Well, I guess that would make it a hypercar, then.

The Model R, as they called it (whether it stands for "Race" or "SEXYR" - or both - is up for debate), would be the perfect recipient for the monstrous powertrain that made Tesla's vehicles so drag race-prolific, given the smaller size would also bring lower weight and improved aerodynamics. The design itself seems a little "last year" Tesla, with the grille not really matching the current direction shown by the Model 3 and Model S facelift, but since this is a 100 percent fantasy car, anything goes.

We're pretty sure that if Tesla were to make a hypercar, it would most definitely look a lot more ballsy than this. Remember this is the company that put falcon wings on a fat SUV, so imagine what it would to with a sleek speed daemon. Actually, we probably can't, but it would sure be a lot more spectacular and unexpected than what we can see here.
