The world can be a mean place sometimes, so if there’s one thing we can all use for a change that sure is a smile. A 60-year-old cab driver from Shenyang sure realized that, so he decided he’ll ask each of his passengers to take a smiling selfie with him. In four years’ time, he managed to build a 30,000-picture collection.
You might have heard of the extremely busy traffic in most of the Chinese cities and how the authorities are trying to reduce auto pollution. Well, imagine how working as a taxi driver must be like. However, Teng Jiazhi found the rightful state of mind to keep smiling and even ask others to do so while at it.
Like any inspiring story, this too starts with an impressive moment that triggered everything. According to Shanghaiist, it all began about ten years ago when he picked up this couple who were waiting for a taxi for more than an hour while it was freezing cold outside. Jazhi picked them up, and they were so thankful they wanted to pay him extra, but the man refused. So instead of that they finally convinced him to at least take a selfie together.
It was the first of a long line of selfies that recently turned him into the man of the hour in China. Teng said that encounter inspired him and in 2011 decided to get a dash camera so he could share smiles with other passengers too.
Today, his account on Weibo, which is best known as the Chinese Facebook, has gained more than 100,000 followers. As the hero driver keeps uploading newer pictures that number only gets larger.
Turns out smiling helps quite a lot after all.
