Superchips Tunes the MkV Golf 1.4 TSI

Superchips, the British tuning company partnered with Volkswagen Racing UK, has created a brand new ECU remap for the old generation Golf 1.4 TSI engine. The fresh programing gives the VW powerplant 180 hp, which is 40 hp over its stock performance. Torque levels have also been risen, by as much as 56 Nm (41 lb-ft).

The kit can be installed on the 1.4 TSI Golf GT, GT Sport and Sport versions of the Golf V. All engines are 1390cc, direct injection, turbocharged and supercharged units. The ECU remap is suitable for all Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSIs that were produced between 2004 and 2008.

The performance modification is available from any of Superchip’s 80 dealers spread around the country and also from the company’s worldwide network. The tuner says the ECU remap can also be installed through a Bluefin plug and go system by owners themselves.

“The MkV Golf TSI can use Superchips market leading Bluefin ‘Plug and go’ handset, which simply plugs into the car’s OBDII diagnostics port, a procedure that takes a matter of minutes. Owners should consult the Superchips website for more details of the Bluefin option,” says the tuning company in the press release for the new product.

In the UK, the remap will set you back GBP445 ($775), including tax but excluding delivery costs. A comprehensive 12 month or 30,000 (48,000 km) supplementary vehicle warranty is offered with the performance upgrade.

Superchips has been modifying factory and racing Volkswagens for quite a long time. It is also the only tuning partner of Volkswagen Racing UK since 2000.

The tuners promise little to no increase in fuel consumption over stock performance. “Indeed, if driven in a ‘like for like’ manner with the standard car, VW Golf MKV 1.4 TSI drivers will experience no fuel consumption penalty, despite the extra performance,” agreed the customizers.
