It’s so fun trying to find parallels between the car industry and the National Football League, especially after important Playoff games. Following last night’s proceedings, two teams will be heading to Super Bowl LVIII, and those teams are the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
What’s funny is that Super Bowl LVIII could have looked totally different. It’s not that the best teams didn’t win, but rather that the two losers could have just as easily won had one or two different plays gone their way. But both the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions choked harder than B-Rabbit in 8 Mile.
Well, technically the Lions choked harder than the Ravens, fittingly, seeing as how they’re from Detroit. Meanwhile, Baltimore basically shot themselves in the foot over and over. It was brutal to watch, but you could sort of see it unfolding. Wide receiver Zay Flowers getting stripped near the end zone hurt them badly, as did him getting called for taunting on a play that could have yielded a 1st & Goal.
Both KC and the Niners did just enough to win these games, limiting their mistakes and coming up big when it mattered – and so we’re about to watch Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift and the Chiefs take on Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (home of the Raiders).
It’s Kansas City versus San Francisco, two automotive hubs known for producing some of the most important pickup trucks in the industry. Let’s clarify one thing though. Technically, the 49ers don’t play in San Francisco, but rather in Santa Clara, a small town 10 miles away from San Jose (45 miles away from San Francisco).
Well, it so happens that Rivian have offices in that area, so if you had to guess who their employees will be rooting for in this year’s Super Bowl, it’ll definitely be the 49ers, a team that represents the entire Bay Area, and as such, Silicon Valley too.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City assembly plant (KCAP) is known for producing the Ford F-150, so you can bet that most people working there are Chiefs fans and will be rooting for their teams alongside Taylor Swift – who’s now dating Chiefs TE Travis Kelce.
Then you have the 49ers, a younger and less experienced team compared to the Chiefs, which is exactly how one might describe Rivian as opposed to Ford. That’s not to say the 49ers don’t stand a good chance to win two weekends from now. In fact, odds makers like them a bit too much, if you ask me. They did the same last week when they thought the Ravens would win.
Anyway, who’s your pick for the Super Bowl this year? I think the Chiefs are the safer bet, much like how most people today would still rather have a Ford F-150 over the battery-electric Rivian R1T. Am I wrong?

Ford F-150 vs. Rivian R1T
It’s funny how many parallels we can draw between Chiefs/Niners and the F-150/R1T. Like the Chiefs, the Ford F-150 is the more “experienced” product, which is why it’s almost impossible to look at it like an underdog, regardless of the proposed scenario. It’s America’s best-selling pickup truck for a reason, just like how the Chiefs are defending Super Bowl champions – they won last year by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35.Then you have the 49ers, a younger and less experienced team compared to the Chiefs, which is exactly how one might describe Rivian as opposed to Ford.
