Subaru Impreza STI R205 Launched

Subaru Tecnica International (STI) today revealed the Subaru Impreza R205, a special performance version that will go on sale in Japanese dealerships today. The car is based on the Impreza WRX STI but obviously adds exclusive equipment at both the interior and the exterior.

The car is powered by the 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbocharge engine that develops 320 PS at 6,400 rpm and 431 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The R205 designation brought a number of sport modifications, including the addition of several mechanical upgrades that are contributing to the final performance figures of the car.
Here are the main mechanical features of the car:

  • STI tuned inverted strut and coil springs for front suspension
  • STI tuned damper and coil springs for rear suspension
  • Brembo 6-pot brake caliper with STI silver logo and 18-inch grooved rotors for front brake
  • Brembo 4-pot brake caliper with STI silver logo and 18-inch grooved rotors for rear brake
  • STI designed 18-inch cast aluminum wheels
  • Bridgestone specially designed “POTENZA RE070” (245/40R18) tyres
  • STI designed flexible type front strut tower bar
  • STI designed flexible type lower arm stiffener of front suspension
  • R205 ECU (Engine Control Unit)
  • R205 exhaust pipe
  • R205 twin scroll turbocharger with flexible type ball bearings for the turbine axle bearing
  • R205 sport muffler with lowered back pressure exhaust
  • R205 front stabilizer

The main upgrades you'll notice when looking at the car are the black front grille, the STI-designed front under spoiler, the rear under spoiler plus the R205 badges on front grille and rear gate. Inside, the R205 features a special side sill plate plus R205 serial number plate.

Production will be limited to 400 units, with each model to be offered with a price tag of 4,510,000 JP Yen (without tax) - around $48,600.
