Subaru Debuts Forester XTI Concept

Subaru has just unveiled the Forester XTI Concept, a new model that combines features of both Forester 2.5XT and Impreza WRX STI, according to a press statement provided by Subaru. The concept will be presented to the general public at the 2008 Specialty Equipment Manufacturer Association, known as SEMA, held in Las Vegas between 4-7 November.

Subaru says that Forester XTI Concept's main features are the spacious interior and the turbo boost, with ultra-performance parts developed by Subaru Tecnica International. But even so, the car was mostly designed and built by Subaru of America, featuring several styling components, including a Sport Mesh Grille, a JDM body kit, side skirts and gate spoiler.

The concept is powered by a 2.5-liter intercooled turbo engine that provides a maximum power of 315 horsepower (even if the stock power was rated at 305hp, the top output was improved with the help of a custom stainless steel cat-back exhaust system) and 300 lb-ft of torque. This high-performance engine works with a 6-speed manual transmission combined with the Driver Controlled Center Differential (also known as DCCD).

The 18-inch alloy wheels are equipped with Yokohama Advan Neova 255/40-R18 tires while the brakes are entirely based on Brembo discs, with 4-piston calipers on front, and 2-piston calipers on rear. The brakes are enhanced by Subaru's Super Sport ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution, known as EBD.

The interior was improved too, offering leather Alcantara sport seats, upgraded instrument clusters and re-shaped dashboard and center console.

Since it was especially designed to be rolled out at SEMA, Forester XTI features custom bodywork and paint, “set off by a custom Atmospheric “Re-Entry” paint scheme,” as Subaru mentioned in the press statement.
