We were not aware of the existence of this little vehicle, but now that we do we are grateful! It is the upcoming Roewe E50 EV, a Ford Ka-sized city runabout which will go on sale in China next year. They plan on making just 1,000, most of which will go to sponsored trial projects, in and around the city of Shanghai.
It features a 63 hp electric motor, has a top speed of 130 km/h, and a reported range of 190 km (118 miles), and its battery pack can be charged to 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes, with the use of a fast charger. Standard charging time should be over six hours, we say.
Now, while it may have ‘borrowed’ some styling elements from some Nissan models, including the Leaf, it is still a good looking machine, with its own identity. Why is this car getting a limited production run, while other (worse) EVs are getting mass produced? This should be brought to Europe to be sold - it would definitely be a hit!
