Tired of reading about Ferrari fires? How about a Mercedes AMG fire! Testing brand new supercars is tricky business and you never know what might happen next. The Nurburgring track has claimed both life and cold metal in the past, and today another ‘victim’ was added to that list.
Before it was completely incinerated, this used to be a prototype for the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series. Designed as the most extreme version of the SLS supercar, it was done in the most hardcore manner possible.
The strain of constant lapping of the ‘Ring was too much for the car, and it burst into flame today. Before the fire crews could arrive and extinguish the fires, not much of it was left.
A great many factors could have contributed to this, such as the fuel injection, the steering or braking system, all of which could have set the SLS ablaze. Right now, we have no further detail about the incident. Let’s hope the drive is OK!
It seems that every highly tuned version of an existing supercar is destined to catch fire while testing on the Nurburgring. It happened before with the Audi R8 V10, and it’s happening again!
