An executive move at the highest level is said to be in the making in the US, as Volkswagen's local CEO, Stefan Jacoby, is reportedly heading for Volvo, where he might lead the carmaker's worldwide operations.
According to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, cited by The New York Times, Jacoby will replace Stephen Odell at the helm of the Swedish manufacturer this August.
Although the news has not been confirmed through official channels, Volkswagen's American division is already engaging in actions which fuel speculation. According to Autonews, VW of America already appointed two executives to take over Jacoby's duties and began negotiations with Jacoby over his contract.
The two executives appointed to take over the CEO's duties are Michael Lohscheller, who will take over interim responsibility for Volkswagen Group of America and Mark Barnes, who took over interim responsibility for the Volkswagen brand.
“We are holding contract talks with Stefan Jacoby. These talks have by no means concluded yet," Volkswagen says in a statement, adding that the interim positions will be kept by the new appointees until Jacoby situation is clarified.
On the Volvo front, silence as well. According to Dan Johnston, a spokesman for Volvo, the news is as fresh for the Swedish as is with everybody else. “We just learned about it today,” he told The New York Times
Jacoby became the head of VW of America in September 2007, shortly becoming the man with whom VW's increasing market share in the US is associated.
