Now that Porsche has officially presented the 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show, we can focus on the next special 911 waiting for its development to be completed, the Targa.
We got wind that the 991 generation 911 Targa was out in Sweden for a cold weather testing session and we sent our spy photographers to capture the car. This was disguised as a convertible model - Porsche wants to keep the vehicle as far away from the public attention as possible, due to the fact that the company is preparing a big change for the Targa.

When Porsche introduced the original Targa in 1965, this had a distinct identity, but later on when the 993 generation replaced the 964, this vanished, with the Targa turning into some sort of a 911 Coupe with a very generous sun roof.

However, the 991 incarnation of the 911 will see the Targa offered as a distinct model - the 911 Coupe now offers a large sunroof as an option. The spy photos below allow you to see the Targa roll bar, as well as the detachable center roof section of the car.

The outgoing 997 Targa can be ordered in both standard and four-wheel drive configurations, with customers also being able to choose between the normal and the “S” model for each of the two.

The upcoming 991 Targa is expected to follow the same recipe. The open-top Porsche is expected to make its debut later this year.
