Mercedes is getting closer and closer to giving us the refreshed version of the G-Class and our team of spy photographers has meet the AMG versions of the car one again. Yes, we said. versions - as a Daimler source confirmed for us earlier this year, Mercedes will give us a G65 AMG version alongside the G55 AMG.
It seems that the G55 will be powered by the new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 525 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm, while the G65 AMG should receive the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 with 612 hp and a peak torque of 1,000 Nm. However, AMG promises that the facelift will bring a fuel efficiency optimization for the off-roader.
All these tech goodies will be wrapped in a package with some new styling bits, such as the mirrors, front grille and the front bumper - the G55 should come with a single oil cooler integrated into the bumper, while the G65 should get two. The revamp will also bring a set of LED daytime running lights. The list of tech upgrades also includes beefier brakes, as the vehicle has to come with matching stopping power.
The interior will also receive some attention, with Mercedes set to introduce new instruments, a new steering wheel, as well as a satnav screen layout that mimics that of the new B-Class, which means that we’ll have the screen on top of the dash.
The G55 AMG and G65 AMG should make their debut at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show in March.
