While we were busy test driving the MINI Coupe, the British carmaker was doing some testing of its own, with our team of spy photographers recently encountering a prototype for the 2013 MINI range.
The company is working on the third generation of the MINI, which will share its platform with the future entry-level, front-wheel-drive BMW model and should come to the market next year as a 2013 model.

The vehicle will grow in size and is expected to also use more masculine styling cues, such as a front grille that will be more generously-sized and placed lower. It’s pretty hard to tell from the images, but it looks like the dashboard might not feature the central gauge anymore, switching to a more conventional layout instead.

The prototype, wore stickers imitating air intakes and this brings us to the question of what will be under the hood. The MINI will adopt a new family of three-cylinder engines that will feature BMW’s TwinPower Turbo tech, which means will get direct injection, solenoid injectors, as well as twin-scroll turbocharging.
