The CLA-Class sedan/four-door coupe has received a lot of attention lately, being one of the most successful car launches we've seen in years. The entry-level luxury Merc does, however, owe part of its existence to one now legendary automobile, the CLS-Class which started this whole four-door coupe craze. Time for the original to shine again!
Mercedes has been woking for about a year now, updating the CLS from top to bottom. This test prototype was recently spotted during winter-testing and we think the debut date is getting closer. We expect the full lineup will be fully revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with sales following a few months after that.
Keep-eyed Mercedes fans will have noticed already that there's something different about this prototype. It's got an AMG or Sports package on it, mirroring the look of the CLS 63 AMG without actually being powered by the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. It's a keen look for the car, with large air intakes at the front.
Of course, this CLS is not all show and no go. Mercedes has recently launched the S-Class with a more powerful V8 for the 500/550 model and there's even a twin-turbo V6 in their lineup, producing the same 333 hp as an Audi S5.
