Mercedes put the four-door coupe fire in our hearts when it launch the first CLS back in 2004, and while the second generation has managed to improve on the luxury design, it hasn’t changed the game. But perhaps it will, because it’s cooking up this interesting take on the estate.
The car you see here isn’t a Shooting Brake per say, but since a four-door can’t be a coupe, we’ll let it slide. The prototype of the CLS with a big boot is nearing completion and we should see this handsome luggage carrier at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next March.
Even though the sloped roofline is a bit impractical, the huge overhang you see means there’s plenty of room in the back. And it’s not like they’ve skipped on the design sauce, since this will come with the usual huge exhaust, a rakish profile and probably a full panoramic window, extending all the way to the edge of the boot.
We expect the engine rage to offer everything between the 3.5-liter V6 to the full AMG 5.5-liter V8 with 518 hp.
