We’ve already shown you what the shape of the future SL-Klasse will be last month, and all AMG fanatics were probably asking themselves what will happen to it when Mercedes decides to drop the powerful new 5.5-liter V8 under that svelte bonnet.

The German engineers have taken a little bit off for the most revealing shots of the 2013 luxury tarmac eater as it was spotted testing on the Nurburgring track. The most noticeable change over the regular roadster comes in the form of larger air intakes and a different front spoiler shape. The nose of the car looks much like a mix between the SLS and the CLS, though the overall proportions are unmistakably SL!

The side view reveals larger wheels that hide huge brake rotors and upgraded calipers, while at the back, four trapezoidal exhausts have been fitted and the lines of the diffuser are also noticeably more angular. The exhaust looks remarkably similar to that on the CLS and should work well to give a more modern look to the car.

We’ve teased you long enough and it’s now time to talk about what’s under the bonnet. The SL63 AMG will no doubt get the new 5.5-liter twin-turbo AMG V-8, delivering somewhere in the region of 571 hp, which makes is marginally more powerful than the upcoming M6 if it adopts the M5’s 560 hp 4.4-liter V8.

We can’t know for sure when the AMG version will be revealed, but the regular SL-Klasse will most likely hit Franfurt in a few months. Mercedes has gotten into the habit of not revealing their performance models at auto shows, the SL63 AMG could be dropped anywhere between now and the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
