Summer is coming, and all of the world’s supermodels are going topless to show their stuff. We’re talking about the brand-new Spyder version of the Audi R8 GT, just spotted completely uncovered while testing on the track. No more teasing no more speculations: it’s coming, and it's really awesome!

The convertible supercar is scheduled to be revealed for the first time at the Le Mans 24 hours endurance race this June ahead of an official world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Though there isn’t much left to be revealed, is there?!

The R8 GT Spyder sports the familiar GT body kit including 19-inch alloy wheels and that large rear spoiler. Just like its coupe twin, it will most likely shed 220 lbs (100 km) from the regular model’s curb weight, through the liberal sprinkling of carbon fiber fairy dust. Aluminum has replaced steel wherever possible, while thinner glass and sheet metal and a fixed rear wing in place of the previous automated one all helped with the big diet. It all sounds like a page pulled out of the Gallardo Superleggera building manual.

The exterior look of the car is set apart from that of the regular Spyder by the unique front splitter with carbon fiber canards, matte grey highlights and custom wheels. Inside, there will be plenty of Alcantara and carbon fiber to ensure that this special edition looks and feels the part.

The drop-top supermodel makes use of a 560 hp 5.2-liter V10 engine, which the Ingolstadt automaker says is good enough for a 0-100 km/h time of approximately approximately 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 311 km/h (193 mph).

Production will likely be limited to 333 units, of which about 90 should make it to the US sometime next year.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
