Audi R8 GT Spyder Coming

As you might now, Audi has a special model versions policy, as the German automotive producer likes to spread the various incarnations of a vehicle throughout its life. This is why the Audi R8 started out in life as a V8-powered supercar, later received a V10 powerplant and was finally gifted with a lighter and beefier GT version.

Now, the GT moniker seems to also be expanding to the Spyder version (in an interesting way this was born as a V10 and later got a V8 mill), as Audi, via autocar, has released a set of sketches for the vehicle.

The vehicle is expected to be previewed at Le Mans in June and should officially come to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The company will probably use the coupe’s limited edition scheme, being expected to only release 333 units of the car.

The GT Spyder should be powered by the same mill as the coupe, which means we’ll get a 560 hp 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10. This will work with an Audi six-speed R-tronic robotized manual gearbox, sending the power to all four wheel using a quattro system the comes with a 15:85 standard torque delivery bias.

More importantly, the coupe incarnation of the GT comes with a 95 kg weight reduction, as it uses carbon fiber for multiple elements and also features lighter brake calipers and windscreen. In addition to that, the GT badge also brings a few bespoke exterior and interior touches, which will probably be inherited by the Spyder.
