Spyshots: 2011 Renault Twingo CC

Confirmed (somehow) by French carmaker Renault ever since April this year, the Renault Twingo CC is currently undergoing testing in light of a rumored launch at the upcoming 2010 Geneva Auto Show (some one year later than the initial expected unveiling date, March 2009, in the same place).

As said, back in April, Renault confirmed the Twingo CC, but said it will not be a...Twingo CC.

"We are working on a small convertible for 2010," Yves-Eric Morel Renault's deputy vice president of the small-car segment said at the time. "It's going to be a niche vehicle, and like any niche vehicle, the objective will be to do something different, that gives a boost to the brand's image. We're not going to do a Twingo CC."

Well, they are going to do it, and these (blury) shots are proof. Aimed at taking on the Opel Tigra and Peugeot 207 CC, the Twingo with retractable roof will be priced at around 15,000 euros, some 4,000 euros below its intended rivals.

For that money, renault will likely offer Twingo's 1.2l four-cylinder engine, but tricked, tweaked and tampered with so that it outputs in the vicinity of 120 hp.

As for its roof, the two-seater will come with a one-piece retractable hardtop, rather than the common cloth top.

As said, despite the fact the car was rumored to surface at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, it didn't. Optimists then moved the release date to the September Frankfurt Auto Show. It missed that to. Now, we all hope for a 2010 Geneva Auto Show entry.
