Here’s one move that comes as natural as business can be: Spyker, the Dutch exotic sportscar maker that owns Saab, announced that it will enter the timepiece market.
The Spyker Timepieces collection will come to the world thanks to the Geneva-based Expressions d'Artistes International and will offer a bouquet of steel, white gold and rose gold mechanical chronographs.
This will impress through their design, which will replicate that of Spyker cars’ instrument panels and will feature a “power reserve indicator”. They will follow Spyker’s identity, with their wrist straps using the same Hulshof leather from the manufacturer’s bucket seats.
The company will release a special edition for owners, which will have serial numbers that match those of Spyker vehicles.
"I am thrilled that the Spyker brand and lifestyle values are now transposed at such a luxury level," said Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker-Saab. "Spyker Cars represent the ultimate level of luxury, design and performance in super sportscars. Being myself a longtime admirer of sophisticated mechanical watches, I have personally collaborated with the design and conception of the Spyker Timepieces. We are proud to grant this license to such a talented watch team led by Thierry Chaunu, CEO of EAI, who is a recognized expert in the field of horology and has his hands on every aspect of the production and distribution of this mechanical marvel."
Of course, all this mechanical and design drama comes with a price: the Spyker timepieces will start at $10,700 (for the steel model) and will go up to $27,000 (for the rose gold model). But this is so unimportant for Spyker owners...
The only thing they might care about is the collection’s debut, which will be made on June 15, during the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. On second thought, this might not be so relevant for the aforementioned group: after all, we could expect Spyker to offer custom on-demand pre-launch presentations of the new product line.
