Spyker to Buy Saab in Days or Give Up

The talks between Spyker and Saab have apparently reached the boiling point and the Dutch carmaker isn't willing to wait for a GM decision anymore. Spyker CEO Victor Muller said in a statement that he expects to reach a deal in a few days or the Dutch company might walk away from the talks.

“There is a point in time where we would say, ‘This is not for us,’ ” Muller said at the Automotive News World Congress. “The last time I looked, which was a half hour ago, we were in the midst of the [Saab negotiation] process. That doesn’t mean too much, but we’re absolutely, definitely in negotiations.”

Although General Motors already announced that it will start winding down Saab - and it even appointed a company to manage the process - negotiations continue between the US-based manufacturer and the interested parties. However, setting up an offer that would perfectly fit GM's requirements seems to be incredibly difficult as neither Spyker nor Genii Capital managed to secure a deal.

GM's CEO Ed Whitacre said in a statement last week that he is still listening to any offer for Saab. “It’s real easy,” he said at the time. “Just show up with the money and you can have it.”

As a reply, Muller confirmed that Spyker submitted a revised bid but refused to provide more details on the proposed terms. “We have shown Mr. Whitacre the money,” Muller said according to Autonews. “It’s my job to reverse [GM’s] position and make sure that Saab is indeed saved.”
