Spyker D12 Peking to Paris Reaches Mass Production

Officially unveiled in 2006 at the Geneva Auto Show, the so-called Cayenne rival will reach mass production in 2009, with an estimated price of 186,000 pounds ($294,252). The D12 will be exclusively produced by Spyker's Zeewolde factory using a conventional production line, in contrast to the previous models which were mostly hand-built.

Spyker's D12 Peking to Paris is powered by a Volkswagen W12 engine capable of producing a maximum power of 500 hp. The engine is said to help the car accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in no less than 5 seconds, combined with a maximum speed of 185 mph.

Spyker D12 Peking to Paris is a luxurious 4-door high-performance SUV which is likely to compete with the top Cayenne versions, such as Turbo and Turbo S, Mercedes ML 63 AMG and Audi Q7 W12 TDI (if taking into account its dimensions and engine performances).

The car was designed by Michiel van den Brink and unveiled in 2006 in Geneva at the local motor show but will only reach mass production in 2009. The name of the new model is inspired by the popular Peking to Paris endurance rally held in 1907 in which the Spyker arrived second.

The Dutch manufacturer didn't say too much about the car but it has been rumored that Spyker D12 may have a 112 inches wheelbase combined with a length of 194 inches, a width of 79 inches and a height of 70 inches.
