In the decade of engineering that separates the 918 Spyder from the Carrera GT, Porsche has decided to gift its halo car with all-wheel-drive, with one of the results being the more forgiving nature of the 887 hp hybrid.
However, in certain scenarios, some drivers still find the 918 as a handful, which probably happened to be the case with the guy behind the wheel of the car wearing the #830 production number.

This 918 had barely seen any asphalt when it was totaled, with a mere 92 miles on the odo, and it has now showed up at a salvage auction in Long Island. To the best of our knowledge, we're dealing with the first wreck affecting the members of the HHHT (holy Hybrid Hypercar Trinity).

The 918 Spyder is being offered by copart, which is probably selling it on behalf of the insurance company. Now, before Zuffenhausen aficionados start fretting about the world being left with 918-minus-one units of the hypercar, you should know this Porsche has serious chances of being rebuilt.

After all, Ferrari has recently offered us an example of this kind, with Maranello's specialists bringing an Enzo that had been split in two during a heavy accident back to life, with the senior Prancing Horse recently trading hands for $1.76 million.

Nevertheless, we wouldn't trust the financial estimate listed on the auction website - the estimated repair cost is listed at $600,000, with the vehicle showing an estimated retail value of $1.5 million (in perfect condition, of course).

With the 918 Spyder's replacement parts costs having recently shown up on Reddit, we'll remind you that, for instance, the engine will set you back over $200,000, while the transmission costs almost $70,000. And those prices don't include the labor. Still, while we're not exactly financially apt for such an auction, we're willing to bet good money on this 918 Spyder's return.

PS: No, that's not the 918 Spyder's rear-axle steering generating the extreme angle of the passenger side rear wheel.
