Skoda Team Appearing at International Czech Republic Rally

Skoda Motorsport, the company’s factory team, has announced it will appear at selected events of the International Czech Republic Rally Championship this year. The team will be represented by one of its factory crews, Jan Kopecky and Petr Stary, and the first event to see them in action is the Wallachia Rally, the opening race of championship that takes place over the last weekend of March.

Using a factory Fabia Super 2000 with a special retro-design, Skoda is commemorating its historical achievements at the Monte Carlo Rally and marking 110 years of its motorsport efforts. The styling is a reminder of the legendary Skoda 130 RS, one of the most successful vehicles in the Under-1,300cm3 category and a car with which the company has made many great achievements, including the victory and the runner-up position at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1977.

“We are pleased that our fans at home will have a chance to see the best we can offer – a factory crew in a Fabia Super 2000 appearing in the Czech Republic Championship. The retro-design will make our appearance in the Czech Republic Championship even more attractive and exciting, and we are also going to mark this year’s anniversary of Skoda’s motorsport efforts,” said Head of Skoda Motorsport Michal Hrabanek.

Back in 2004 Kopecky was the Czech Republic Rally Champion with his Fabia WRC. He has also taken part in a number of race series, including IRC and the CIR Italian Championship. He was the IRC runner-up over the last two years, and IRC remains the focus of his competition agenda (as a member of Skoda Motorsport) this year.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
