Skoda Superb Gets 1.6 TDI Engine

{img align=left}The Skoda Superb has received a new diesel powerplant, with the 1.6 liter TDI unit entering the vehicle’s engine range. The downsized unit deliver a power of 105 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm (between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm) and has been tweaked to offer a good response.

This means that the unit is suitable for both city and motorway driving. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Based on the state-of-the-art common rail technology, the engine will impress consumers with its smooth performance and low consumption,” stated the press release.

As this is a modern unit that follows the downsizing trend, it offers a high level of efficiency. This means that the Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI offers a combined fuel consumption of 5.0 liters per 100 km and only emits 130 grams of CO2 per km - both values are offered for the combined driving cycle. The engine meets the Euro V emission standards, being the most frugal and eco-friendly diesel unit in the Superb range. In addition to that, it lowers Skoda vehicle range’s average emissions level.

We are really proud of the 1.6 TDI CR, and it wraps up our portfolio of direct-injection engines - the Superb line now offers the common rail technology with all of its diesel engines. The 1.6 TDI CR is an ideal combination of state-of-the-art technologies, economical operation and environmental friendliness. It is an advanced engine that offers excellent driving properties under any circumstances,“ said Eckhard Scholz, Skoda Auto Board Of Directors Member responsible for technological development.
