Czech carmaker Skoda yesterday started production of the Superb Combi at the Kvasiny production plant in the natal country. The Superb Combi is 4,838 mm long, 1,817 wide and 1,510 high and boasts a luggage compartment of 633 liters (1,865 liters with the rear seats folded down).

The car comes, in standard configuration, with a 1.4-liter TSI engine that develops 92 kW (123 horsepower) and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. With these settings, the Superb Combi is priced at CZK 589,900 (approximately 34,600 US dollars).

The new mid-size station wagon, also referred to as Estate in some markets, will be offered with several engine configurations, either gasoline or diesels, with outputs ranging from 125 hp to 170 hp. As for displacement, most of the units will be in the 1.4l range, with a top of the line 3.6l V6, developing 260 hp rumored to complete the line-up.

"The car is a logical continuation of the Superb model series and offers an ideal combination of practicality and elegance. The estate version follows on from the hatchback, the current generation of which has found more than forty-two thousand owners, in just over a year since it was launched," the company explained in a release in late August when releasing the first teaser of the car.

At this time, Skoda is building only left-hand drive models but production for right-hand markets will commence in January. The car will go on sale in Europe in the early months of 2010, with pricing information for each market to be released at a later date.
