There's nothing quite like crashing on ice - that feeling of helplessness as the car doesn't want to behave as it should. This dashcam video from Russia, however, shows that some drivers are better prepared than others.
The short clip from ViralHog shows the moments before a potentially costly crash. The driver with the dashcam is going up a hill with a couple of blocks of flats just up ahead. Suddenly, a black BMW appears, starts sliding sideways, and looks like it's going to crash into him.
But our hero-driver has ultra instincts going on and reverses away from harm. Some audio would have made the situation a little more clear, but it looks like the cammer was being cautious, slowing down even before the X6 began losing control, which gave him just enough time to go into reverse.
For a few seconds, it looks like the BMW is still going to hit him due to its speed, but it eventually stops, having taken no damage at all. We have no way of proving this but suspect the X6 was on summer tires. We're dealing with a very old first-gen model, perhaps even a salvage model bought off Copart and imported to Russia. Its owner was probably going for maximum "respect" points without saving any money for tires.
The road isn't too iced up either. In fact, there are patches where you can see the asphalt underneath. Bad reactions from the BMW X6 could also be to blame. All four wheels are still turning at the beginning of the slide, so he's on the gas. While the front wheels are turning the wrong way, he tries to catch the slide, but to no avail.
If this had turned into a crash, it might have cost the X6 guy a lot of money to replace a rear fender a door, possibly even some suspension components. We don't know what the dashcam car is, but judging from the viewing angle and flat hood, it's either a van or an off-roader, like a Land Cruiser.
