Although the information was not confirmed by the Spanish outfit, one may link this report to Senna's latest comments regarding his F1 future. Talking to the media earlier this week, the Brazilian driver suggested that there are close to 100 percent chances of him making his F1 debut next season.
Senna's first steps in Formula One could therefore mean the start of a new pay-driver era in the sport, as several other drivers are linked with F1 drives in return of hefty sponsorship money. Given that there are at least 3 teams - all the newly entrants, except for US F1 - looking for money for the 2010 championship, the drivers who benefit from financial backing may have a chance of debuting/returning to F1.
Vitaly Petrov, another driver who is believed to bring around 15 million euros with him in Formula One, has also been linked with drives for Campos, Manor and Lotus. Also, disgraced F1 driver Nelsinho Piquet (5m euros) and Lucas di Grassi (7m euros) are counting on their sponsorship money to make the F1 grid next year.
Should the Senna rumors prove to be true, it would mean that Piquet Jr. will no longer have a place to drive next year - at least not with Campos. According to team boss Adrian Campos, the Spanish outfit will go for a rookie vs. experienced driver lineup in their first year in the series, which would probably translate into Bruno Senna vs. Pedro de la Rosa.
The McLaren test driver was heavily linked with a racing seat with Campos earlier this year, several rumors suggesting that he even inked a 2-year deal with the Spanish outfit starting 2010.
