The other fresh SEAT revealed today as part of the Spanish automaker’s green ambitions is the Leon TwinDrive, which is supposed to be a plug-in hybrid that combines the “advantaged of emission-free driving with the range of a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.”
In all-electric model, the Leon plug-in promises to offer a range of 52 km and a top speed of 120 km/h. As with the Altea EV, a test fleet will be used to further develop the prototype into a production vehicle. The carmaker from Spain says they will put the hybrid Leon into production starting in 2015.
The Seat Leon TwinDrive has top speed of 170 Km/h when using both electricity and combustion, so we’re going to guess the engine is connected to the wheels and isn’t used just as a generator.
“The Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive is an exciting and ground-breaking solution. Technically, it allows you to drive in all-electric mode, while at the same time enjoying smart hybrid drive. Thanks to its great range, none of our customers will need to change their lifestyle or transport habits,” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT executive Vice-president for R&D.
