SEAT may have hired the same people to do the commercial for the all-new and uber exciting Ateca SUV as VW. Well, at least the SUV is exciting for the people who like the Spanish brand yet need some off-road capabilities.
In any case, the first clip we're showing you was released as the Ateca was making its way to Geneva on March 1. It's not the first video of the car, but it is the first to show footage that's TV-worthy. It uses a modern version of Nina Simone's song Sinnerman to show how the Ateca fits the life of an active person.
From the city to the beach, a white 4x4 model is used by a female surfer to unwind and forget about her stressful day. And all this time, the features of the Ateca are highlighted: the drive mode selector, keyless entry, Full Link, and 4Drive system. And when you're not in the mood to wear out your right foot, traffic jam assist moves the car for you.
This is also the first time we learn that Ateca models are available with wireless phone charging and ambient lighting. Unless we are mistaken, these are first for the SEAT brand.
Right after the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen released a similar clip featuring the second-generation Tiguan. The two models are quite similar in size, come with the same engines, and are based on the MQB platform. Even the AWD control knob is something SEAT took from the Tiguan and installed on the Ateca.
Where they differ is in the sort of customers they target. Volkswagen is a traditional brand with some of the highest prices of any non-premium company in Europe. The Tiguan has slightly better interior fit, more advanced equipment and a loooong options list. SEAT used to be all about performance but has changed to offering 50% fun and 50% practicality at a more affordable price. Many models are cheaper than their equivalent Skoda counterparts
