Scrambling after Your Runaway SUV Is Not the Kind of Selfie You Want to Take

We've all forgotten to pull the handbrake once in our driver's life and, depending on how serious the aftermath was, some of may have forgotten about it even a second time.
I, for instance, was visiting my mother who lives in a flat, so I parked in front of her high-rise. A few minutes later, a lady calls her apartment on the intercom and tells me to come down because my car had run into her newsstand.

As the elevator was going down, I was expecting a hellish scene with newspapers scattered all over the place and my car sitting triumphantly on top of her knocked-down kiosk. Instead, all I got was a small scratch and a dent in the hatch and a very useful lesson on how you should always remember to pull the handbrake.

Had the guy in the video below visited his mother more often, maybe this wouldn't have happened to him. But he hadn't, so it did. Instead, he went out into the woods on a beautiful wintery day (technically it's still autumn, but not where he lives, apparently) with his friends, making proper use of those SUVs like very few people do.

However, for all his good intentions, it turned out not to be the best decision he ever made, just like being the last car in convoy as well. As the cars stop for whatever reason, the man gets out of his car, pulls a jacket on (it may technically be autumn, but it's literally freezing) and goes over to the car in front to see what's up.

Let me tell you what wasn't up, though

His car's handbrake lever. Oh yeah, he had committed the ultimate newbie mistake in the worst possible situation, and he was about to pay for it. You know it's going to happen, so you just need to wait for it for a second.

Him wearing a hood didn't help with his awareness either, so the car gets a headstart of a few seconds, which is enough to gain a bit of speed. He runs desperately after the car, but at this point, you have to wonder: "what is he going to do once he catches up?" Will he try to pull it to a halt? Because there's no way he's getting in that car at that kind of speed unless he used to be a stuntman for Bruce Willis.

The tracks in the snow mean that the SUV gets to roll for a few good seconds, prolonging his agony before the inevitable happens and the car rolls over. We don't get to see the damage, but the cracked windshield means that the roof's shape wasn't the same as when the vehicle had left the factory.

If this were a contest between "let me tell you about that time when I forgot to pull the handbrake" stories, then his would have no problem winning every time. Unfortunately, such a contest doesn't exist, so he's anything but a winner.
