Scooter Splits Lanes, Driver Turns, Crash Follows

Bad afternoon for a scooter rider in Riga, the capital of Latvia, as his fast lane splitting came to a bitter end with massive help from a driver.
While lane splitting at significantly higher speed than the rest of the traffic is one of the surest way to crash, having a driver suddenly turning left in front of the two-wheeler is one of the things riders should actually be expecting. Well, it was definitely not the case of this rider, who simply darts ahead as if the road was empty.

To his surprise, things went wrong, as the black car turned left, with the driver obviously not bothering to check with his mirrors, and without signaling, thus giving exactly zero chances to the scooter rider to avoid the ensuing crash.

Hoping that both have learned something from this, I'm still wondering why do all scooters seem to ride so fast in the city?
