Schumacher Agrees to 3.5M Euro Deal with Mercedes - Reports

It seems Michael Schumacher’s returning to Formula One action has become simply a formality, if we are to believe the latest reports coming from the German media. As suggested by Germany’s Bild newspaper, Schumacher already gave his word to Ross Brawn about joining the Mercedes GP outfit next season.

Bild also unveiled the fact that Schu is about to sign a one-year contract with the team later next week, as he managed to withdraw from his consulting contract with Ferrari. The German had initially signed a 3-year extension with the Italian company during this season’s Italian Grand Prix, at Monza.

The signature is just a formality. Schumacher feels fit and healthy. The latest (medical) tests were entirely positive. He can't wait for the return and working with Ross Brawn again,” a source close to the matter was quoted as saying by aforementioned publication.

While Bild focused on sharing the news as highly probable, Focus magazine disclosed the fact that Schu’s return to F1 with Mercedes has a lot to do with the medical agreement from his doctors. If he succeeds in passing the examination, Schu will reportedly sign a 3.5 million euro deal with Ross Brawn’s team, representing only 10 percent of what he used to make in his Ferrari driving days.

After the 2010 season, Schumacher is likely to hang up his helmet completely, but only to become long-time ambassador for the Stuttgart based Mercedes-Benz company, revealed the aforementioned magazine.

In the meantime, both Schu’s spokeswoman Sabine Kehm and his manager Willi Weber refused to comment on the news – which is usually a sign of the rumors being in the vicinity of accurateness.

I don't know anything about it. I have not spoken with Mercedes, nor do I have any meetings with them,” said Weber, according to the SID news agency.
