Schu's Scan Was a Shock for Ferrari

Ferrari have clearly suffered an unexpected hit when Michael Schumacher let them know he won't be able to make his Formula One return after all, as the Italians had no idea the German's “minor” injury in Fabruary was that serious. Ferrari's CEO Luca di Montezemolo was the one to confirm it, as he revealed the latest scan underwent by Schu was supposed to be “only a formality.”

Talking to Italian newspaper La Stampa, the Ferrarian admitted however that no one at the Scuderia insisted on Schu making his comeback if it could affect his health.

“Over the last days Michael had anticipated that he was about to go back to Germany for another scan of his neck. It seemed to be a formality,” said Di Montezemolo in the aforementioned interview.

“They found something that still didn't work. So it's better not to insist. We wouldn't do that at all. He had the small motorcycle accident in February and on the first laps at Mugello he felt that something was wrong. You shouldn't joke with your health,” insisted the Ferrari boss.

Indeed, after his very first test of the Ferrari F2007 more than a week ago, Schumacher wrote on his personal website that “my neck pinches a bit.” This happened before his training programme started to become busy with both fitness and kart-testing sessions.

“For the enthusiasm Schumacher accepted the challenge, for how it went, completely improvised. Let me say it again: it's too risky,” added Di Montezemolo, insisting that no one should be held responsible for what happened.
