Schumacher Didn't Want to Return in the First Place

Schumacher today revealed that he didn't want to return to Formula One in the first place, but only decided to make his comeback because he was convinced by Ferrari's CEO Luca di Montezemolo. During his press conference in Geneva, the 40-year old German talked about his feelings prior and after the decision to replace Felipe Massa in the Ferrari F60 cockpit.

At the beginning, I was mostly for a big No. Honestly, I was convinced I would say no to such a request but, knowing Montezemolo and him being such a great friend, he had me convinced to give it a try. He's a very persuasive guy. My wife told me to do whatever I considered it's right,” revealed the 7-time world champion.

Also, he didn't blame no one for him making the decision to come back into the sport, as he was very well aware of what was going to wait for him in Formula One.

I knew very well what I was called for at Maranello. I knew what was going on and I had plenty of time to make my decision. I've decided to come back after consulting with my wife Corinna,” added the German ace.

He once again admitted that he didn't decide to return to the sport in order to satisfy his need for adrenaline, but help his former team get by such difficult times. And that's why he now feels so disappointed for not being able to give the Maranello officials the support he promised them in the first place.

His doctor Johannes Peil, of the Bad-Neuheim Sportklinic, was also present at the press conference. After explaining the seriousness of Schumacher's injury, he didn't even blinked when concluding that this is the worst injury in Schu's motorsport career.

We're talking about a fracture located at the base of his cranium. It's a fundamental region of one's body,” said Peil.
