Schumacher to Fully Explain Quit on Wednesday

Michael Schumacher will bring some further clarifications regarding his decision to cancel his Formula One return on Wednesday, as reported by the German newspaper Rhein Zeitung. Although the 40-year old German already posted a statement of his own on his personal site and explained his decision, he will now discuss it in detail with the media.

According to the aforementioned source, Schumacher will not be alone at the press conference, but joined by doctor Johannes Peil, of the Bad-Neuheim Sportklinic (the very clinic where he has conducted his medical examinations during the past week).

In his statement yesterday, the 7-time world champion admitted that only medical problems have prevented him from replacing Felipe Massa for the remainder of the season, as he revealed he is still in pain after his motorcycle crash in February.

The consequences of the injuries caused by the bike-accident in February, fractures in the area of head and neck, unfortunately have turned out to be still too severe. That is why my neck cannot stand the extreme stresses caused by Formula 1 yet,” said Schu in his statement.

This are the clear results of the examinations we did on the course of the past two weeks and the final examination yesterday afternoon. As there were no improvements after the day in Mugello, I decided at short notice on Sunday to do that thorough examination already yesterday.”

I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn't work out. Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible,” added the German.
