The Russian car market is doing very well at the moment, with constant and predictable increases. In September, car sales in the country went up by 10%, reaching a total of 259,582 units sold. However, the trend may not last, as there are signs that a slowdown is approaching.
According to the Association of European Businesses, "The hot phase of fast year-on-year growth in Russia is over, for now. On the backdrop of the situation in the rest of Europe however, a 10 percent increase in sales is a very respectable result.” This is clearly evidenced by the fact that in July, the sales growth was 14%, while in August, sales were 15% higher than those recorded in 2011.

The boost is sustained by excellent performances recored by the premium manufacturers, who are doing very well in Russia. BMW sales rose by 51% in September, Audi sales rose an even more impressive 57%, while Mercedes-Benz only managed to muster a 18% increase over last year’s figures.

In the first nine months of the year, automotive sales in Russia rose by 14%, when compared to 2011, reaching a total number of 2.18-million units. They’re currently only outranked by Germany, in Europe, where 2.36-million cars were sold in the same period. Analysts say it will take Russia two more years to surpass the Germans, with a sales forecast of 2.85-million units in 2014.
