This weekend the DTM race will be held in the capital city of Russia, Moscow. It will be the second race hosted here in recent years after 2014’s premiere. And yet, it only took the Russians a little over 12 months to start some trouble.
Russia is currently enforcing a country-wide ban on all Western food and they are absolutely, ridiculously serious about it. Not too long ago, a video showing a bulldozer running over three frozen geese was making front page news, showing just how absurd the way of thinking of the Russian government is nowadays. Well, hold on to your seats as we’re about to enter a whole new level of ridiculousness.

Yesterday, the Russian authorities seized and destroyed no less than 1.5 tons of food that were being transported by BMW’s DTM convoy to Moscow. It is rather pointless to tell you what it was being planned for even though that does seem like an excessive amount for the eight teams for just a weekend.

However, none of that made it past the border control and their keen eyes (and bulldozers). All the food has been destroyed and, apparently, the BMW team members will have to rely on locally-sourced meals for their trip to the Russian capital city. The action happened 450 miles (725 km) away from Moscow, in the Pskov region.

According to The Guardian, this is the second time the Germans have been forced to leave their food behind as another shipment of around 800 kg (1763 lbs) was also destroyed after being found in a car transporting equipment for the race.

“The department decided to impound goods at the checkpoint due to gross violation of sanitary rules,” Russian news agency, Tass was quoted by food watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor as saying.

Well, we won’t argue with these guys since they seem so serious about destroying food but why can’t they just donate it to people who actually need it? Oh, wait... They prefer to let their own starve to death...
