Royal Purple Becomes Darlington Sponsor

The Darlington Raceway has a new title sponsor for the coming years, after Royal Purple Synthetic signed a multiyear agreement with the track officials. As a result, this year's event on May 7 at Darlington will be called Royal Purple 200 presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts.

"What a great opportunity to be the title sponsor of the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Darlington Raceway. It's a perfect pairing of Royal Purple's high performance and action-packed racing," Patrick Burris, motorsports coordinator for Royal Purple said according to NASCAR.

"Royal Purple is a great fit at Darlington Raceway," added track president Chris Browning. "They have a very unique brand that will incorporate itself very well in the NASCAR community and we are very excited to welcome them into the Darlington Raceway family."

The May 7 event at Darlington will comprise Nationwide and Sprint Cup series practice, qualifying for the Nationwide and Cup series in the afternoon and the race itself under the lights (SHOWTIME Southern 500 and the aforementioned Purple 200 Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts).

The Darlington Raceway, a 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval track, opened on Labor Day in 1950 and shortly became known as the place "Too Tough to Tame."

On the other hand, Royal Purple was founded in 1986 and currently manufactures high performance lubricants, including marine, racing, snowmobile, and motorcycle oils.
