Good news for people who plan to get a new Royal Enfield, as the Indian manufacturer announced that all 11 models currently being sold will receive extended warranty. Currently, Royal Enfield machinery is sold with a one-year limited warranty, which will be extended to two years and 20,000 km (12,430 km). This warranty expansion was not possible until now, not even as an option.
Royal Enfield hopes that the new warranty program will help raise interest from new customers and be a significant asset to drive the 2015 sales. With Royal Enfield’s well-known plans to extend their presence in the western markets, a new warranty scheme was somehow a most natural choice. And even though the Indian manufacturer says that the technical problems are a thing of the past, there is still a strong suspicion as afar as reliability is concerned.

Not the most reliable bike out there

A brand with a long history, Royal Enfield has had to deal with a lot of problems regarding the reliability of its bikes. At the heart of the problem was obviously the fact that these machines are more than retro-styled - they are still incorporating old technologies which seem to have sort of reached their final days.

Abandoned by many other manufacturers, these technologies endured with Royal Enfield, but it looks like the usage of the bikes in the present days proved their limit. Still sought after for their good prices, Royal Enfield machines are also among the closest one can get to real vintage motorcycles. In a way, the Royal Enfield machines are probably among the last “new old stock” bikes money can buy.

However, a new generation of Royal Enfield bikes is present, and the company’s top brass says they are rid of the old problems. With their increasing presence in both Europe and North America, we are definitely going to learn really soon whether Royal Enfield has become a synonym for reliability or there is still a long way to go.
