Rolling Coal In the Duramax Camaro and Cummins Charger Sure Looks Like Fun

Diesel never caught on in the United States of America because it’s not as fun as its high-octane counterpart. Even though diesel is popular in Europe because it’s cheaper than gasoline, the U.S. consumer doesn’t care about that too much because prices at the pump are very different on either side of the Atlantic. However, some people definitely like to roll coal like there’s no tomorrow.
We usually associate a turbo diesel with a heavy-duty truck, not a regular car. But despite the fatal blow took by diesel after the Volkswagen emissions scandal, Europeans continue to buy cars that munch on Satan’s fuel. Heck, even General Motors plans to shoehorn a 1.6-liter CDTi under the hood of the Cruze. Be that as it may, one particular man prefers to build, not buy.

His name is Nathan Mueller and yes, he definitely enjoys diesel power (no Prodigy pun intended). Nathan loves diesel so much, he decided to do the unimaginable to a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2006 Dodge Charger. Yup, he swapped the original mills for a 6.6-liter LMM Duramax V8 and a 5.9-liter ISB Cummins inline-6. Off-the-hook creativity is what defines Nathan and his shop Waite Park, Minnesota-based shop, One of Won Customs.

The 8-minute and 47-second clip below features a description that tells all there is to building such an outlandish duo of diesel-powered bad boys. Also, the narration is like a breath of fresh air in a YouTube flooded with mainstream car reviews. Don’t mind my cliche, but this is poetry in motion.

In the case of the Duramax Camaro, the output is rated at 516 hp and 896 lb-ft (1,215 Nm) of torque, coming courtesy of a Rychener Speed & Fab 65-millimeter stage 2 turbo. As for the Cummins Charger, this thing puts down 307 hp and 720 lb-ft (976 Nm) thanks to a Holset HX40 turbo. Besides the numbers and smoke these cars produce, the real beauty is in the details.
