After Luca di Montezemolo announced he's leaving Ferrari earlier today after a career spanning 23 years, another big automotive leadership change has been announced - former BMW senior VP of German sales Roland Kruger is now the president of Infiniti.
He's the first proper Infiniti brand head since a guy called Johan de Nysschen jumped ship for Caddy and his interim replacement, Andy Palmer, left the Japanese manufacturer for Aston Martin. Krueger's automotive career started in 1992, when he joined Mitsubishi Motors Europe in Germany as interior and exterior designer, after which Daimler made him senior designer for smart brand interiors in 1994.

A German national born in 1965, Krueger arrived at the blue roundel automaker from Munchen in the late 1990s, where he started as strategic product planning officer, after which he went through a number of executive positions. After regional roles such as chief exec for BMW Japan, Roland was appointed senior vice president of the BMW Group in charge of the German sales region.

"Roland Krüger has a consistent record of high performance in the premium automotive sector," said Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan. Ghosn added that "he [Roland] brings unique leadership skills that will accelerate Infiniti's progress in the global premium market." An official statement from the carmaker informs Roland will be based at the Infiniti brand's Hong Kong headquarters in China. Hong Kong ranks as the world's third most important leading international financial centre after London and New York City.
