Rocketman Confirmed as Name of Future MINI City Car

MINI will attend the 2011 Geneva Auto Show that opens its doors to the press next week with what is rumored to be the next interpretation of the company's city car. And although we're days away from the debut of the venue, MINI keeps things secret and the only info we have is that the future project will be a modern incarnation of the original Mini, boasting similar dimensions but lots of modern systems. Today, some more details reached our ears (or eyes since we've found this online): MINI has baptized the future model "Rocketman" and a concept will indeed be shown in Geneva as a preview of a future city model. A report rolled out by The Age reveals that the concept will measure 3.4 meters in length and will have approximately the same height and width as the current hatchback sold with a MINI badge. But what's more important is that BMW intends to make the vehicle ultra efficient, so it will feature a brand new carbon spaceframe construction, as part of the developments made by the Germans in the MegaCity project. Furthermore, the car will come equipped with one of BMW's new three-cylinder engine, a turbo diesel powerplant that will release an impressive amount of power with very low emission ratings. The aforementioned source reports that the Rocketman, although a "rocket", could even achieve 3.0 l/100km (78.4 mpg).
